This policy covers both the website (misegauge.com, "the site") and the Android and iPhone app "미세먼지 Gauge" (com.jesustalk.dust, "the app"). Neither has a sign-up, and neither collects information that identifies you personally, such as a name or contact details. What follows describes the information the site and the app handle in order to work. Anything that applies only to one of them is marked as such.
1. Location (site)
The site uses your browser's location feature to find nearby monitoring stations. This only happens if you grant permission in the browser, and you can withdraw it at any time in your settings.
Your coordinates pass through the site's server (acting as a relay) to Korea's public data portal in order to look up stations and weather. The coordinates are not written to any database and are not stored against you.
Request details may remain briefly in the access logs of the hosting provider (Cloudflare). These are ordinary server logs kept for operations and security, and are deleted according to that provider's retention policy.
You can use the site without granting location permission by choosing a region manually.
2. Information stored in your browser (site)
The items below are stored only on your device (browser local storage) and are never sent to a server. You can erase them at any time using your browser's "clear site data" function.
The last location you viewed — so the screen fills in immediately on your next visit
Theme preference — whether you chose the light or dark screen
Language preference — the language you selected
3. Visit analytics and usability analysis (site)
The site uses the two tools below to understand how it is used and improve it. Neither collects information that identifies you personally, such as a name or contact details.
Google Analytics — visit statistics such as which pages are viewed and how people arrive. It distinguishes visits using cookies, and IP addresses are anonymised. You can opt out with the opt-out add-on.
Microsoft Clarity — to find where people get stuck, it records on-screen interactions such as mouse movement, clicks and scrolling, and presents them as heatmaps and session replays. Anything typed into an input field is masked automatically and is not stored. See the Microsoft privacy statement for details.
If you use your browser's tracking protection or an ad-blocking extension, neither tool will run. This does not affect the site in any way.
Both tools are on the website only. Neither is in the app.
4. Advertising and cookies (site)
The site shows advertising through Google AdSense and Kakao AdFit. Third-party advertising providers may use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits.
You can manage third-party advertising cookies together at www.aboutads.info.
The site sets no advertising cookies of its own.
5. What the app handles (Android and iPhone)
The app does not use the analytics tools in section 3 (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity); those are on the website only. What follows is everything that leaves your device in the app.
Location
The app uses your device's location to find nearby monitoring stations. This only happens if you grant the permission, and you can withdraw it at any time in your device settings.
The app works without the permission. It then shows Seoul by default, and you can pick a region or a city yourself.
Inside Korea, coordinates are converted to the meteorological grid (about 5 km) before being sent; elsewhere they are rounded to two decimal places (about 1 km). The one exception: if the full list of Korean monitoring stations cannot be loaded, coordinates accurate to the metre are sent to find the nearest stations. Coordinates are not written to any database and are not stored against you.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Ads in the app are served by Google AdMob. To show ads, measure their performance and prevent fraud, it collects the following, and this information is shared with Google. The app itself does not retain these values.
Advertising ID and App Set ID — for serving and measuring ads and preventing click fraud (Android)
IDFV (iPhone) — an identifier shared only among apps from the same developer, which may be used for ad measurement and preventing click fraud. The iPhone app does not request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission, so the advertising identifier (IDFA) is not collected
IP address — to estimate a general area and show ads suited to it. The location coordinates the app obtains are not passed to advertising.
Ad interactions and diagnostics — whether an ad was seen or tapped, plus performance figures such as app start-up time and responsiveness
You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time under Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
The app stores only your language and theme preferences on the device. They are never sent to a server and disappear when you uninstall the app.

7. Your rights
Because no personal information that could identify you is kept, there is no separate procedure for access, correction or deletion. On the site, information stored on your device can be erased in your browser and location permission withdrawn in your browser settings. In the app, you can withdraw location permission in your device settings, reset or delete your advertising ID on Android, and uninstalling the app removes the settings stored on the device.
8. Children's privacy
Neither the site nor the app is directed at children under 14, and neither knowingly collects personal information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated policy and its effective date will be posted on this page.
